Bella en vanlig tonårig tjej som flyttar till sin pappa & börjar i en ny skola.Där träffar bella Edward som blir förälskade. Men ingen vanlig tonårs cruss då Edward & hans famlij Cullens är vampyrer. Cullens olika styrkor är Speed,styrka,Edward kan läsa tankar,Alice kan se i framtiden. Bella upptäcker ganska snart att Cullen familjen är vampyrer.Det skrämmer henne inte utan hon kommer & lära känna Edards familj. De ovanliga vampyrer som kan vara ute i solljus & till synes leva ett vardagligt liv med gå i skolan eller arbeta. Bellas vän Jacob bor på indian reservatet han berättar en gammal sägen om The cold ones & wolves. Bella & Edward har väldikt djupa  känslor för varann, de kan knappt slita sig från varann.

Nya vampyrer kommer till Forks La Rount,Viktoria & James de försöker komma åt Bella medans Cullen gör allt i sin makt för att skydda Bella & hennes familj. Bellas mamma vill att Bella ska flytta tillbaka till henne. Men Bella vill stanna i Forks för hon har sin älskade Edward där. & hennes vänner. James letar upp Bellas mamma & hotar att skada henne om Bella inte kommer & möter James i hennes gamla dans studio. Edward kommer i sista sekunden när Bella har blivit biten & nära döden & resten av familjen Cullens kommer. Edward har ett svårt val då han kan välja rädda Bellas liv men han vet inte om han kommer kunna sluta dricka hennes blod...
